At this stage I have found myself seeking a balance between controlling the outcome of my work and allowing it more autonomy.

A perfectionist by nature, charcoal has been an amusing medium to have caught my interest; it’s messy, stubborn, and it can often do as it damn well pleases. This may have to do with the fact that I am still developing an understanding or it may be in its nature. Regardless, charcoal has gifted me humor throughout the learning curves, strengthened my ability to adapt, and shuffled me into a state of exploration rather than release.

It isn’t unusual for me to constantly use new mediums if it means it will better suit current needs & curiosities which lately has been a need to play without hyper focusing on an end result. I have found that this series focuses on male figures which I have no answer as to why but am happy with since most of my past pieces honor mostly women. With all this in mind, here we are and here is what I have created thus far!

Gesture, posture, movement, light, shadow, and simple moments are at focus when building this collection. Though I am barely becoming acquainted with the medium, I am beyond excited to see how this collection will look months from now. Until then, these pieces I am deeply satisfied with with many, many more to come over time.
